You sit down at the piano, open a lead sheet… and something's missing.
You can play what's on the page: the melody, the chords. But it sounds thin.
A bare tune, propped up by blocky chords. No depth, no movement, none of the richness you can hear in your head.
So you simplify. You play it safer than you'd like. And it still doesn't feel like a performance. It feels like practice.
Over time, you quietly start avoiding the moments where someone might ask you to play something.
Not because you can't play. But because you don't quite trust what will come out when it counts.
And not for lack of effort. Usually the opposite. Most players land here after years of trying to piece it all together:
Picking up interesting ideas, but never quite seeing how they fit together.
Hoping the next one would finally make it click.
Only to find they still don't tell you what to actually play.
Here's the real problem:
Fragmented learning.
No structure. No system. No order.
Just useful pieces, handed to you at random. Like a puzzle with no picture on the box.
So when you sit down to play your favorite song, you're still left wondering:
“How do I turn this into actual music?”
Here's the thing...
The answer was never more. More chords, more theory, more tricks. After teaching thousands of players, that's almost never what's missing.
Sit down with just melody and chords, and the rest is up to you. That's where the music really lives, in everything you add yourself:
All of this has a name…
It's creative arranging.
Being able to sit down and give a song shape, movement, a clear beginning and an end.
You don't need more information. You need a clear, repeatable process you can use every time you sit down at the piano.
The same steps, on any song.
A step-by-step solo piano method.
From lead sheet to music that flows.
The solo piano course
that teaches you to think
and play like a creative musician.
A repeatable method for turning any lead sheet into a full, flowing solo piano arrangement. One you can use on any song.
You build one layer at a time, at your own pace. Nothing falls apart, and you always know what to practice next.
By the end, you won't just have learned a few songs. You'll have a reliable way of playing that stays with you for life.

MBC Method is a gamechanger. I have completely left the traditional way of learning a new song. A new world opens!
This course flips traditional piano learning systems upside down. You'll discover how to improvise from the start.
It's the best course I've ever taken. Thank you for restoring my passion for playing the piano. I'm now 65 years old and have finally reached the point I've been searching for all this time.
I have lots of tunes for which I can play right hand melody but never knew how to move beyond that. I am now applying the basic MBC stack to these tunes and really enjoying that progress.
I learned how to play by ear and groove from my brain and not from sheets.
This is such a fun course! Adam explains very well and each segment is just enough to work through for the next lesson.
I love how he gets you using your creativity and improving right away instead of hammering you with theory and boring exercises.
If I could have created the perfect course for playing solo piano this would be it. I have improved in all aspects of my playing.
I feel like I now have the creative freedom to apply his method to many of the songs I want to play and that my piano journey is moving forward in a way that I could not have imagined.
Adam is a great teacher! I really love the way he plays — it's very inspiring. He explains everything clearly and makes learning the piano really enjoyable.
This is the kind of course I have been seeking for years! This course has taught me the technique and skills no traditional teacher teaches.
I couldn't have arrived at this place I'm at now with 2 months into the course had I played YouTube videos for 2 years.
Before purchasing this course I was able to play a melody in the right hand and a simple 1,5,8 pattern in the left hand, sounded nice, but now that I'm learning how to form chords in the right hand, the entire melody sounds much richer.
I still have much to learn, and am looking forward to the rest of the course with great anticipation. If I can do this, anybody can.
I would definitely recommend the course; it isn't exactly cheap, but for me it was worth every penny.
I'm sitting at the piano with more joy, freedom and creativity and less fear of getting it wrong. It's returning me to playful confidence after years of not playing.
This course has definitely pushed my abilities to play more freely and confidently than ever before. Now piano playing has shifted from something rigid into a creative process.
This course is really helping with my confidence level. I feel like I know what I'm doing now in the worship band at church.
Over fifteen years of teaching, I've taken everything I know about how players actually learn to play beautiful solo piano, and built it into a single, structured system.
A six-step framework that takes you from a bare melody and a few chords to a rich, flowing solo piano arrangement. Each step builds on the last. Nothing is left to “figure out for yourself.”
Each layer builds on the last.
Nothing collapses.
You start with a bare lead sheet, just melody and chord symbols, and add one step at a time, until a thin sketch on the page sounds like a complete arrangement. Same method on any song, in any style: ballads, blues, pop, and worship.
The bridge between knowing your chords and sounding like a piano player who can play anything.
Structured, layered, and designed to build on each other, so you're never overwhelmed, and never wondering "what should I work on next?"
Your companion at the piano. Every lesson laid out in detail, with examples, practice tips, and space to make it your own.
Play along, build it up layer by layer, and hit a checkpoint that tells you when you've truly got it. No more guessing whether you're ready to move on.
The bit most courses never show you: what it actually looks like to build an arrangement from a blank page. Sold separately after this launch, free when you join this week.
When a song or technique isn't clicking, ask. Post a question in the member area and you're among a whole community working through the same lessons, with me and the team in there answering, so you're never stuck staring at a lead sheet wondering what comes next.
Here's what you'll be able to do after each module.
Open any card below for the full module breakdown.
Before you can stack melody and chords together in your right hand, you need control. This module builds right-hand independence through targeted exercises, so the top of your hand can carry the tune while your other fingers handle the chords.
Once that's in place, you'll dive straight into improvisation. Guided, musical, creative. By the end, you're not preparing to play. You're making music in the moment.
What you'll learn
This is where the guessing stops. You'll learn exactly what to prioritize when you sit down at the piano, and in what order. You'll use this Stack as the stable foundation for every song you play going forward.
You'll layer melody, bass and chords step by step across both hands, then bring them together on real songs until the process feels like second nature.
What you'll learn
This is the module that gives you a complete rhythmic toolbox you can apply to any song, without ever telling you to "just feel it."
You'll learn how to bring rhythm into the natural gaps in a melody and fill them with movement, then build out a left hand that finally has somewhere to go beyond the root note, until an arrangement that felt blocky and static starts to breathe.
What you'll learn
This is where your playing starts to have a personality of its own. Up to now, you've been building arrangements that are correct. Here, you learn the touches that make them expressive: the small inflections, the passing chords and connectors, and the flourishes that separate someone playing the notes from someone making music.
It's where you break out of "locked into perfection" mode and start making genuine musical choices, rather than just playing what's on the page.
What you'll learn
No more sitting there wondering how to begin. No more fading out awkwardly. You'll learn a range of intro approaches and matching endings, plus interludes that bridge your first and second playthrough, so every song feels shaped, not cut off.
What you'll learn
The gaps between phrases are where most players freeze. This module hands you a set of go-to fills for exactly those moments. Not generic licks bolted on from somewhere else, but tasteful moves that fit the actual song and the moment.
The gaps stop feeling like something to survive. You'll know exactly what to play. And, just as importantly, when to leave space.
What you'll learn
Imagine this…
It's a quiet Sunday afternoon. You open a lead sheet, a song you've always loved, and instead of hesitating…
You just start.
A simple intro that sounds intentional. Your hands know where to go: melody, bass, chords, all working together. The rhythm feels natural. A fill slips in. The music breathes.
You're not clinging on. You're in control. It feels calm. Reliable. Like you're finally driving the piano instead of hanging on for dear life.
And when you reach the end, you don't fade out awkwardly.
You finish.
Someone walks in. They stop. "That was incredible."
And here's the best part…
Tomorrow, you could do it again with a completely different song.
Because you're not relying on a memorized arrangement, you've got a process you can trust.
This isn't about becoming a concert piano player. It's about sitting down to play and knowing, actually knowing, that what comes out will sound like real music.
That's the freedom this course will give you.
And that's not all…
When you enroll today, you'll also get instant access to:
The main course gives you the roadmap. The Lead Sheet Lab shows you exactly what it looks like to use it in the real world.
Inside, you'll watch me take a blank lead sheet and build a full arrangement from scratch, in real time.
Not a polished demo. Not a perfect "here's one I made earlier" version.
You'll see the actual thinking process:
Because this is where most players get stuck:
How do you keep a song interesting verse after verse… without just playing the same thing again and again?
In the Lab, you'll watch me start simple, then gradually build the arrangement, so the second verse feels different from the first, and the final verse actually lands like an ending.
This isn't just "extra lessons." It's the part most courses skip.
And for a lot of players, this is the missing piece, the part that finally makes everything come together.
I built The Keys Coach for players like you. Players who want a clearer, more creative way forward, so they can sit down and play with confidence and freedom.
I've worked with thousands of players who understand harmony and know their chords, and still freeze the moment they don't have everything written out.
That gap between knowing and playing? That's what I'm obsessed with closing.
Before The Keys Coach, I spent years as a performing pianist: the Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scott's, and featured pianist for Decca Records. I was also a Professor at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, where the principal awarded me a Teaching and Learning Award for my innovative approach to music education, and I'm a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Along the way, I wrote two best-selling theory books for Trinity College London.
But what matters more than any of that: I understand exactly why you feel stuck, and how to get you unstuck.
Most players don't need more theory. They need a way to make what they already know flow.
That's my mission. And it's exactly what this course is built to do.
Real reviews from real Lead Sheet Masterclass students.
If you’re trying to figure out how to play from a lead sheet and you’ve watched hours of YouTube videos like me, my guess is you may be frustrated. I was. I don’t leave many recommendations, but when I find something that’s exceptional I share it with my friends. Adam’s Lead Sheet course is like no other. The content is comprehensive. A ground up process that will leave you satisfied and able to finally do it. It’s well worth the investment!
This is the best piano course I have taken in the time since 2020 when I began playing. Although I am only on the brink of being able to play songs well from a lead sheet, the progress I have made so far has been more than I could have imagined.
I learned piano via traditional classical training—which is wonderful since classical music is my first love. But, I could never figure out how to arrange a song so that I could play popular music and jazz standards. This is despite my being able to do so with ease on guitar. This course has been perfect, zeroing in on how to create song arrangements from lead sheets. The course goes through a step by step tutorial providing the foundation and subsequent techniques which I would never have learned on my own. I know, because I tried on and off for years. Adam is a great teacher, and his videos are clear and easy to follow. You learn the how and the why, along with the music theory so you can apply the techniques to other music. Finally, I can’t review the course without commenting on how terrific the written course materials are. The latter are very clear, easy to read and professionally prepared such as you would expect from a major music publisher. They definitely exceeded my expectations. A final comment. The course is lots of fun, but it takes lots of practice and study to improve!
The course has been a real eye opener for me. Being a person who has played music from the sheet for many, many years it was really tough to throw the music away and just let go. But the moment came when I played without music just playing chords in the right hand and tonic bass in the left. To me it sounded beautiful! But then I recorded it and realized it was just the beginning, and so I have moved on now playing melody and chords in the right hand and tonic bass in the left but also improvising and adding my own movement with lead notes and arpeggios. To me this is a marvellous experience and one I would recommend to anyone wanting to “ throw away the music sheet and use a lead sheet” Peter Guntrip
For over 5 decades I’ve been taking piano lessons in various locales around the USA from numerous instructors and for the first time someone has taken the time to go step by step to help me improve my playing.
I'm early on in the process, but Lead Sheets is by far the best course I've taken that provides clear, simple strategies for being creative with the piano without sight-reading to play technical scores. This course doesn't bog you down by focusing on playing all the scales or learning a piece in each and every key. I wish this were the first class I'd ever taken!
My biggest win is that I can be a child again. I can literally just "play," and discover, and listen, and admire the sound. I'm not tied to my sheet music.
This is a great overview of the lead sheet arrangement process. My playing has become SOOOOO much more enjoyable now that I can apply these methods to any lead sheet I like. Adam's enthusiasm is a great motivator and I can hardly wait to continue applying these skills until they become second nature! Thanks so much!
Before joining this course I had a few reservations. The last thing I wanted to do was spend my cash on a same old, same old, course that could be uninteresting and too basic. I can honestly say that my money is very well spent. I’ve been enrolled for six or seven weeks now and I’m making sure I take my time on each module, slowly, slowly catchy monkey. One great step forward I had is the right hand melody fingers and chord fingers . So totally different and at first a very unnatural way to play, but this is how pop musicians work. It takes some time, and I’m still getting there, but the improvement to chord recognition in all its inversions and more importantly feeling your hand positions on the keyboard is a game changer . Don’t get me wrong it demands hard work, but it is a very interesting fun and informative course and it lasts — not even halfway through and plenty of stuff to do . I recommend it thoroughly but take your time
I've completed the first module so far. The course is very well structured, and the approach it takes is worth paying attention to. The course truly teaches how to play solo piano, how to create arrangements, and how to use all ten fingers. I have never regretted becoming a participant in the training.
I am not a trained pianist. I have learned from several paid programs. I always have had to learn songs note for note and never understood how to dissect a song into bass, melody and chords like taught here. I have just started but I 100% see the tools I will get from this. I feel confident I am transforming from someone who can only play a song note for note, how I learned it, into someone who can customize any song with my own ideas after learning the framework here.
I really love this course because it guides me so well through a process where every step helps me play the piano better and with more confidence. It gives me a tremendous sense of calm to be moving forward within a well-structured system, where each step is just challenging enough to be an achievable goal. Adam’s enthusiasm and his quick responses to my questions help me push through even the toughest parts. I wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone who wants to play the piano more fluently, with greater awareness and understanding, and to enjoy the journey along the way.
Just began the Lead Sheet Masterclass. I am only on Module 2. If you took this course and stopped on Module 2, you would feel satisfied about the investment you made. What you learn here is so powerful that I feel that I could stop here and continue to work on this on my own.
Ok, so I’m a busy person trying to increase my piano playing skills and theory. Adam’s courses, as well as the YouTube content, have really moved me on. When Adam mentioned The Lead Sheet Masterclass was coming, I couldn’t wait, especially after the Creative Piano Roadmap. You get all the tips and tricks, and I’ve also learned so much more theory as we go, but in a fun and progressive way. The course allows you to go at your own speed, and it’s for life! Just as well, as for half the year, I work away from home where my piano is, so just had to buy another and install it in my camper van so I can practice 😁 The skills I am learning get me thinking about re-looking at my old lead sheet books and see what I can do with them as well. I recommend this course for anyone who got lost after the initial beginner phase, and wondered what’s next? Adam is a great piano teacher and player. Everything is broken down in easy chunks with the associated print outs available. You practice when you can and the course is always there waiting for you and I don’t feel that I’m alone. Thank you Adam and the Keys Coach Team. Mike Chilvers Somewhere on an airfield in the UK
Thank you so much for creating the “Lead Sheet Masterclass.” This class has truly been a light of hope for me. I never had formal piano training as a child. I’d only ever sung while casually playing chords, feeling lost whenever I tried to work parts out for myself. Thanks to concepts like “the MBC stack” and “smudge,” I was finally able to decide how to play the parts. I hope to continue playing piano and singing for the rest of my life. So… “please count me in!” With gratitude, Midori Matsuda
This course has opened the door to finally find what was missing in songs I was playing. The instructions and layout of the course are fantastic. I honestly wake up each morning looking forward to learning more. Highly Recommend!
I recommend this channel, because it is written for real piano playing, you will not just enjoy, but understand music. Adam knows exactly what problems you may be struggling with, and he gives the right advice to solve them. And this course really fuels your creativity.
So as a 77-year-old male beginner, I see the Lead Sheet Masterclass course as the easiest and best way for me to play the songs, on the piano without too much music theory knowledge. I’ve been a slow starter on the course, but so far it has been enjoyable, mainly because it is easy to follow, professionally developed and I know that support is there if needed from Adam or other Lead Sheet Masterclass Members. Would I purchase again, definitely yes.
Just completed module 1. Although I was already reasonably confident about all the content in this module I picked up two massive tips relating to using fingers 4/5 for the melody leaving the others for harmony and also some really helpful stuff on improvising a melody. I’m expecting the next module to be more challenging for me but it’s so essential to make sure these fundamental skills are under your fingers before moving on. Adam is an inspiring teacher.
The Lead Sheet Masterclass is designed to build the techniques to take a piece of music and make it your own. The (how) to make it your own is built in every lesson and carries through each lesson. Taking that knowledge from your head to your fingers! Yes, I would recommend the Lead Sheet Masterclass.
I am so glad I was able to complete this course. It's exactly what I've been looking for all the years that I have been playing piano! Years of traditional training always left me with a deficit in my playing ability. I always wondered how others were able to play with such ease practically any song that they wanted or that was requested. Seeing players sit with just a melody or a simple chord chart and create superb arrangements was something that I felt was over and above my abilities. Being restricted to notation drove me mad and then I came across Adam's courses. This course does more than what it says on the tin. When I say it has eradicated a lifetime of anxiety when asked to play something, I am not exaggerating. Adam's teaching is first-rate, the course is well thought-out and content is professionally presented. This course not only gives you the skills to do what the course offers, but it goes above and beyond promises of bringing the lead sheet to full, rich and individual arrangements. What I loved mostly about this course other than the skills and techniques you are able to develop from the lessons which move at a steady pace, creating time to incorporate into your own playing — is the skill Adam imparts to use this technique across several songs in the course but also how to apply them to any song we wish to play. If you are looking for a good foundation in playing with Lead Sheets and the ability to develop that skill or if you are restricted to notation and just want to play songs; This course gives you those techniques and more. This is a standalone course but Adam's first course is a great accompaniment and facilitator of 'Master the Lead Sheets!' The value of the course content, not to mention Adam's teaching, is very reasonably priced and an investment you can't afford to miss!
For me, this course has been a real turning point. For so many years, I’ve been trying to put my very bad experiences of learning the piano at a traditional music school behind me. Thanks to this course, and thanks to Adam’s passion and teaching skills, I’ve found a new way to play the music I enjoy and to be creative. I’m currently halfway through the course and am enjoying every single lesson. I also find the additional resources in the lessons very professional and helpful. It’s the best course I’ve ever taken. Thank you for restoring my passion for playing the piano. I’m now 65 years old and have finally reached the point I’ve been searching for all this time.
I want to take a moment to commend Adam on his new course. My goal in taking this course was to be able to free myself from the reliance on sheet music, and be able to arrange and accompany myself and other musicians on our favorite songs, with only a lead sheet and chord symbols in front of us...frightening thought, or so I thought. Well my fear is fading quickly now, and I have only finished module 2 so far. Adam has laid out an extremely thoughtful, thorough, methodical course, which I do believe is going to get me to my goal. He takes you by the hand, and walks you through how he systematically builds his arrangements from the ground up, the ground being the melody line and chord symbols, and he does it in a very clear and concise way. The songs he chose to walk us through his method are 3 beautiful old traditional songs, and one he himself wrote. They already sound so beautiful, even in this early stage of building the arrangement. I peeked ahead to module 3...lots of excitement to come. Now that the foundation has been laid, it looks as though he is going to introduce us to a lot of different techniques, or "tools" from a toolbox, to layer sounds on top of our firm foundation and make our arrangements even more beautiful and interesting. I'm quite excited, and I believe it is the first time I have honestly looked forward to sitting down at the piano with my laptop for hours at a time, because I think that with the help of this course, I might just get to where I want to be. Thanks Adam.
I love this course and the way Adam teaches. He is so positive and encouraging. I was classically trained and could play moderately difficult pieces of music. I was looking for a way to learn how to improvise and just “ sit down and play “. The course is just what I needed. Well structured, building upon the lessons with good instruction and practice drills. I had my first “ah ha” moment after I finished the first module—I was starting to get it…the freedom to play what I heard in my head, with structure but freedom. And no worries about “making a mistake “. Can’t wait to get into Module 2. Well worth the money
Wow! I've now worked my way through just over 50% of the course and have gone through the Lab for the song "All Through The Night" and things are now really sinking in. Seeing how Adam brings everything together in a Lead Sheet that doesn't have a lot of the major gaps in half and whole notes has been eye opening. My playing has incrementally transformed over the first half of the class and now I feel as though I've taken a major leap forward through the lab! I couldn't have arrived at this place I'm at now with 2 months into the course had I played YouTube videos for 2 years. I can't thank you enough...well done!
As a professional pianist who spent years training via the traditional route I find it so refreshing to be able to take a totally different approach to playing. Adam's friendly and encouraging approach is just so different from what I have been used to. I'm so enjoying being able to forget myself during the lessons and to be able to jump straight in! From what I have already seen thus far in the course I would highly recommend this especially to any adults who have been struggling to grasp learning piano via the traditional route.
In this course, Adam presents and teaches an approach to improvisation and playing from lead sheets in the manner that I have not encountered anywhere else and that is highly effective. It feels like when a secret that has been hiding in plain sight is finally revealed and the door to musical freedom of expression opened! My biggest win was the discovery of the approach to improvisation that allowed me to enjoy the music I created from the instant I applied Adam's method. Instructions and exercises are explained in a very clear and thoughtful manner that make the material accessible and interesting regardless of the prior experience level. Adam's YouTube videos are great, but the course allows you to fully benefit from Adam's knowledge and teaching method. I highly recommend this course!
Wow this course is a gamechanger for me. I am taking it slowly and haven't moved beyond the basic MBC stack yet but already I feel like I am playing at another level. I have lots of tunes for which I can play right hand melody but never knew how to move beyond that. I am now applying the basic MBC stack to these tunes and really enjoying that progress. I feel this course is definitely the answer for me and I am really looking forward to seeing how far it can take me. Thanks Adam for making this happen for me 👏👏
I am extremely happy with the Lead Sheet Masterclass course, and only wish I could have had access to it years ago. I have just finished Module One, and can now sit at my piano and improvise, something that I have never been able to do before. Adam's approach is refreshing, interesting and informative. His positivity is infectious, and I look forward to both my practice sessions and his piano lessons.
I have progressed 40% through this well structured course and viewed the lesson content yet to be worked. I unequivocally recommend the " Lead Sheet Masterclass Course", by Adam Saunders, "The Keys Coach" to anybody wishing to learn, step by step, how to proficiently play songs from lead sheets. That is just the start. This comprehensive course continues in depth and detail on how to further enhance and personalise your playing using the techniques of professionals. All the videos are clear, well produced and backed up with a complete electronic, 343 page course book. Exercise and challenges throughout ensure plenty of opportunity to immediately apply all that is learned, with clear methodology and application. If this "extremely competitively priced, lifetime access course" was available when I started to learn piano five years ago, at age 68, I could have saved both time and money in search of my ideal course.
Adam's course has helped me immensely on my journey with the piano. I was relatively new to playing and felt somewhat lost on YouTube. Luckily, I found Adam's Creative Piano Roadmap, which helped me build much more momentum and confidence. I honestly believe I wouldn't be playing as much piano as I am without Adam. The Lead Sheet Masterclass is incredibly practical. You don't just copy what he does for one specific lead sheet; you actually learn the principles to get creative yourself with any lead sheet you want to play. At the same time, he doesn't overwhelm you with 25 different creative options for one scenario; instead, he goes through a few that are quite universal, which you will probably be using and building upon for the rest of your piano journey. I would 100% recommend this course to those who are willing to put in a little bit of work to achieve some pretty amazing results.
The Leadsheet Master Class by Adam is a must have class for those who want to learn piano solo. Its unique, chord-based approach and fingering method unlock the secret of solo playing which can apply to every song. Surprisingly suddenly, I learned how to play by ear and groove from my brain and not from sheets when it comes to the end of the course. Highly recommended!
Love Adam's course and the way he teaches. He brings great energy to the course, makes it fun for beginners and more advanced players alike, and explains concepts well. I love how he gets you using your creativity and improving right away instead of hammering you with theory and boring exercises. Would highly recommend!
This is a great course both for newcomers to piano and those wanting to improve. Its easy-to-follow, structured method builds the strongest of foundations, and provides plenty of eureka moments along the way! Being an online course, you can learn at your own speed, at times which suit you, and at a cost cheaper than face-to-face lessons. And Adam is a truly inspirational teacher.
I’m taking it slowly so only about 6-7 sessions in, but already I can feel that I’m sitting at the piano with more joy, freedom and creativity and less fear of getting it wrong. It’s returning me to playful confidence after years of not playing.
By the end of the course, I had a handful of songs that I can play creatively and with confidence! And I have a system and tools that I can use with any lead sheet! The whole journey is so fun and rewarding, thanks, Adam!
If I could have created the perfect course for playing solo piano this would be it. I have improved in all aspects of my playing.
I highly recommend this course! It focuses on skills that are challenging, but achievable - and is ably supported by top-quality instructional design and course materials. If you are attracted to the flexible framework and creative options afforded by Lead Sheets, then this program is for you!
It isn’t easy to let go of sheet music if you learned to play the piano the classical way. I wanted to play more freely and had a look at lead sheets before. The course offers a practical structure to create music from a lead sheet. It is great to watch Adam showing and breaking down how chord progressions and voicings work. I would recommend the course to anyone who wants to play popular music on the piano.
This course is really helping with my confidence level. I feel like I know what I’m doing now in the worship band at church. It’s broken into manageable lessons and is thoroughly enjoyable. Adam is a very engaging teacher.
This course flips traditional piano learning systems upside down. You’ll discover how to improvise from the start. You’ll learn RH rhythm/melody/chord tactics that’ll take your playing to the next level. Very refreshing!
Before purchasing this course I was able to play a melody in the right hand and a simple 1,5,8 pattern in the left hand, sounded nice, but now that I'm learning how to form chords in the right hand, the entire melody sounds much richer. I haven't got to the section yet with regards to adding fills and passing notes which will make the entire melody sound even better. I'm a wee bit slow but that's OK I can take my time. I would most certainly recommend this course. It's yours for life and I'm 70.
MBC Method is a gamechanger. I have completely left the traditional way of learning a new song. A new world opens!
WOW! What a course. I have learned so much and I'm only 1/3 way through the course. This has been worth every penny. It is challenging and fun at the same time. You won't regret this course.
This course is highly recommended for anyone who wants to create some unique or different piano pieces for themselves, not just the classical way (where you just follow all the instructions and symbols to play - classical piano is very enticing but you can't go too creative with it)..... Adam's way is really creative and not too hard to learn if you put in decent time and effort to practice :) So far, at 40% completion, I have already learned a lot of patterns/tricks for the left and right hands to add depth to my songs. The course workbook is also very organized and structured, every page is well thought out, well written and I can see a lot of effort in putting them together!
I am finding as I progress through this course things are coming to me more quickly and I feel like I have a much broader toolbox with more creative ideas when I am at the piano. It's an excellent course for someone who is stuck reading sheet music and needs to figure out how to play more freely.
As a relative beginner to piano this course is an excellent choice and as I have found confidence soon builds up if you take the course at a steady pace and don’t rush yourself. Adam is an excellent teacher, and I have learned so much from this course and his YouTube videos.
I think it’s a brilliant course – well-structured and logically organized. It’s very easy to follow the material and you learn something new with every lesson. I now know how to approach a lead sheet; I'm surprised at how well it works. I've been given lots of tools to use, and it sounds really good. In any case, I would definitely recommend the course; it isn’t exactly cheap, but for me it was worth every penny.
This is such a fun course! Adam explains very well and each segment is just enough to work through for the next lesson. Also, I love the melody selections.
Anyone who wants to learn how to improvise over a melody lead sheet, this is the course to begin. I know how to play with chord charts but playing with the Lead Sheet is somewhat different. Since I have been following the lessons in "Masterclass: Lead Sheet," I have learned techniques such as "Smudge" and using the 4th and 5th fingers for the melody line. And now I am beginning Module 3, "Rhythm." The instruction is quite clear and easy to follow both with the lesson demonstration and correlating the reading along with the course book. Having been in Education for 31 years, I recommend this path to success for playing any Lead Sheet.
Hello, my name is André. I come from the Netherlands. I have wanted to make beautiful piano music from lead sheets for quite some time. Through the fantastic Leadsheets Masterclass course of Adam, I have learned a lot of new things in a very short time, with the added advantage that my 4th and 5th finger move much more smoothly. I am happy.
Lead Sheet Masterclass is inspiring. It's encouraged me to try new things and adapt other material based on the approach learned. Biggest win - validating some of the fingering techniques my teacher of several decades ago would not have permitted. Lifetime access is brilliant - some weeks I can put more time in and reap the progress. But if life is busy I don't lose out by doing less for the week. The lessons and play along clips can be reviewed as often as I need to. If lead sheets are your main source of music, go for it!
I found the “Lead Sheet Masterclass” to be a very well designed course - a good follow-up to “The Creative Piano Roadmap” course. It assumes that you have a good basic knowledge of piano playing. You are first taught how to create a basic piano accompaniment from a lead sheet. You then see how to add different elements such as rhythm and passing chords to the lead sheet. You have the opportunity of applying these elements to a well-known tune. Later on in the ‘Lead Sheet Lab’, you are able to see how Adam applies the different elements to two other tunes. I found the rhythm and passing chord sections of the course particularly good. For me, the course gives a framework of what to consider when producing an accompaniment for a lead sheet. You are also given advice regarding how to adapt a particular technique to a specific tune – and the ‘Lead Sheet Lab’ was very helpful in this respect. I would certainly strongly recommend the course.
You know, I’ve tried a lot of online piano courses. The problem I’ve had with many of them is that they’re often far too broad in scope, a smorgasbord of choices that at first seems great, but that left me bouncing from piece to piece without really building cumulative skills. (And one website kept bombarding me every month or so with “one-time” offers for a lifetime membership, which got a bit annoying.) So, getting back to the subject at hand: because of those earlier experiences, I really appreciate the step-by-step approach of this lead sheet course. It feels designed to help students actually master a skill rather than just sample material. From my own experience, I know that putting together a coherent course like this is a tremendous amount of work. Good going, Adam. Oh yes, I’m too busy to join the Count Me In group, but if you’re planning another course, you might think about ear training, or at least incorporating more of it.
I had to change my whole approach to improvisation, not an easy thing. But I feel that I couldn't be in better hands to accomplish what I set out to do, which is to get rid of bad habits and play songs that actually sound EXCITING!
I look forward to every lesson in this course. It’s really opened my possibilities in addition to giving me the confidence to play in front of my friends. Every lesson just expands my toolkit of expressions on the piano. I recommend this course to anyone looking to take their playing to new levels!
I have been playing from lead sheets for a long time, and have improved over the years but realized I could sound better if I introduced the chords to the right hand and played bass in the left, I have tried to do this with some success but not managed to master it and kept reverting back to my old ways. This course is encouraging me to change a long-time habit and I am sure by the end of the course I will be sounding much better.
After the original set of exercises I am using my 4th and 5th fingers much more effectively. Took a bit of work but really worth it. Previous stuff I learned is sounding more fluid. Currently working on the stacking methods and fill-ins. I have a lot of old sheet music that I never really got to sound full or flowing and I am having fun with. I’m very happy with the course and would recommend it to anyone.
I am really enjoying this course. It is exactly what I had been looking for - to play a lead sheet with both hands, and the MBC combination. I am still in module 2 but I am taking my time because I really want to nail this procedure.
I enjoy the incremental approach, taking bite-size steps. Simple trials in a 1-4-5 melody can sound bland and amateur, but Adam adds color and flavor using slash chords and sus4 chords. These are simple to use, not complicated. Also the "smudge" is cool. I used to fake this sound by arpeggiating a chord, but again, that made my playing a bit amateur.
This course teaches you a truckload full of tools to make you able to turn any lead sheet into a masterpiece of your own. I think in the end it will also help me to start improvising with any chord sequence I come across. I will definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to make music with their own spin on it.
I would heartily recommend this course to anyone that wants to be able to take a simple structured lead sheet and develop a repeatable methodology that you will love to apply for yourself. Excellent!
I am really enjoying this course. It has been many years since I played so it has taken me a while to get my hands to do what they are supposed to do, but I'm finally feeling confident. It's relaxing to be able to sit down at the piano and improvise actual music. I definitely recommend this course.
I could already play from lead sheets before I started this course, but I was playing the bare bones and not being very creative, because I didn’t know how. This course has given me so many useful things that I can now add to my songs (especially 4minor6 chords and diminished chords. I didn’t even know what these chords were before, but now I do, and they sound wonderful!) I’m adding extras in little by little and I feel much more confident with my playing.
I was reasonably familiar with chords coming into this, but this module really showed me how to build smooth transitions between them, the way they appear on a lead sheet.
Love the class. You nailed it on one of the “Smudge” lessons when you said not enough players slow down to really learn the early bits, they are trying to get to the next thing. I am really trying to slow down and get these into my playing, and feel I have gotten better because of slowing down. Would highly recommend this course Thank you Adam for your hard work
An excellent course that has given me a method to follow that I was lacking before.
This course is extremely helpful if you want to learn beautiful techniques that make your music reach a higher level. I'm very grateful and happy that I found it and joined. It's really worth the cost.
Before finding out about the keys coach course I enrolled in a few courses to find out if that is what I wanted to accomplish. I was never totally satisfied until I found TheKeysCoach on YouTube. Adam is a great teacher, knows how to organize the lessons and document the lessons. Adam is very thorough in everything that he does and you can tell that he wants everybody to succeed. Definitely I would recommend this course.
Going slow and practicing each lesson before moving on. Biggest win was putting all the pieces together and actually trying and succeeding in improvising. Was pleasantly surprised, as was my partner, that I actually produced something listenable and enjoyable!
Thoroughly enjoyed (and still enjoying!) this course! Currently going back and re-reviewing the lessons to pick up things I may have missed the first time through. Adam's approach provides inspiration and motivation to continually improve your skills, confidence and enjoyment when playing keys!
As a 74 year-old retired music educator (Master of Music - music education) with 35 years of experience teaching six to eighteen year-olds in public education, I was well prepared for traditional teaching methods in general music and secondary school optional courses. Although well informed in tonal harmony from Bach to the present time, I used the crutch of being able to read to avoid any thoughts of being creative. Dabbling in jazz piano after retirement left me going down the theory “rabbit hole”. Discovering The Keys Coach changed all that. If you’ve followed the channel, The Keys Coach philosophy is one of creativity at the keyboard, sadly lacking in conservatory style lessons. I realized that playing the popular music of the last half of the 20th century in Adam’s style was what I wanted. Having purchased The Creative Piano Roadmap and been subscribed to The Keys Coach channel for over a year, I already knew that Adam’s playing was different from others in the best way. Lead Sheet Masterclass stands on its own and doesn’t require knowledge of the concepts in his previous course as preparation. That being said, if you’ve taken that program, his way of thinking has already been ingrained and makes the pedagogy of Lead Sheet Masterclass crystal clear. Although the course was promoted as being appropriate for the intermediate player, Adam frequently goes beyond by offering more intensive, optional material for the more experienced player. Certainly much can be attained in one’s playing even without covering those extras, but presenting them makes the program even more appealing. As far as the pace of instruction moves along, I think he’s struck a happy medium. Adam kept bringing up questions of artistic choices, which has broad appeal to everyone despite their level of ability. The material was extremely well thought out pedagogically, to the point that I never came across anything in which I felt further follow-up would be necessary. It seemed that Adam was anticipating any question I might have in advance and clarifying points about which I might have asked. As he delved further into the curriculum, Adam was careful to concentrate on the lesson at hand and avoid complicating the arrangement needlessly. The current topic was always the main focus, devoid of distractions, but he left plenty of opportunity for applying previously learned material. The bottom line is that this method or “way” is a journey that in time, through diligent practice, will allow anyone to develop skills for spontaneous playing. There is more than enough to keep me busy for years as I reference this material with any song I wish to play. I wanted to learn to play like Adam. This is the first step, and a very good one, to begin that journey. This is what I would have wanted at age 14, and I’m sure I’m not alone.
It’s applying the knowledge. Walking us through the actual song examples. I know a lot of “bits” of information, but applying it is the game changer for me. I know people who play in bands are not geniuses! I just couldn’t figure out how they’re doing it. You’re giving me hope.
I enthusiastically recommend signing up for the Lead Sheet Masterclass. Since learning the Melody/Bass/Chord approach to lead sheets, I’ve gained the skills to create basic arrangements, which I now incorporate into my playing with my church music group. Adam is an inspiring and engaging instructor who uses video lessons and a comprehensive coursebook to effectively communicate key concepts. The course offers a wealth of valuable arrangement techniques, and I know I’ll be referencing them frequently as I continue to refine the musicality of my arrangements.
This course gave me a structured approach to learning any song from a lead sheet. The Melody, Bass, Chords sequence is actually very helpful along with everything that goes along with it such as technique, fingering, fills, etc. Thank you for developing this.
You learn a lot of techniques and tools to add to your piano toolbox through the LSM, and they’re all terrific, gained in a really nicely layered and scaffolded fashion so each lesson is distinct but progressively adds to your ability without being overwhelming. But the biggest change in my playing is simply gaining the confidence to make music my own. Adam’s course is designed around YOU creating YOUR music, not just following along. I remember a song I love where the bridge is simply written as “ad lib here.” Before the LSM, this was terrifying and I would just skip to the next verse. Now I’ve created several bridge versions I’ll play depending on my mood. I fell out of love with piano as a young adult because I didn’t see the point of being a “player piano.” Now the piano has become an amazing source of freedom and creative expression!
I’m only halfway through the course, but the most important insight so far is that with this method, you can really arrange any piano piece so that it sounds fluid and seamless. I’ve learned to play some of my own compositions in a completely new way. Before, I tried to learn fancy jazz chords. Now I have a toolkit that can be used much more universally. I would absolutely recommend this course to all my friends. It opens up a whole new perspective and has brought me a big step closer to playing my own music in a sophisticated arrangement.

Lead Sheet Masterclass isn't an always-open course. I open enrollment for a short window, then close it.
That way I can actually look after the people inside rather than spread myself thin across everyone. When it closes, enrollment closes too.
You've seen how it works and where it can take you. The only thing left is to get started.
Watch Adam build real arrangements from scratch.
Get unstuck fast. Post a question and Adam and the team are right there in the member area to help.
Everything is layered. Module 1 starts with exercises to build control. Then the MBC Stack. Then rhythm. Then flow. You're never trying to do everything at once.
If you can read a lead sheet and play basic chords, you have everything you need to start.
You don't need to be a strong reader at all. This whole course is about getting you away from the page. The focus is on lead sheets (melody and chord symbols), not complex notation.
And every note on each lead sheet and in the coursebook has the note name written inside, so you can follow along without getting stuck.
YouTube is a tasting menu: quick ideas, inspiration, things to try.
This is the full method: a complete, layered framework for arranging any lead sheet, start to finish, with everything connecting and building as you go.
This is designed for real adult life. 15–20 minutes most days is enough to make solid progress. It's not a weekend binge.
It's a structured journey most people work through in around 6 months, though you'll notice a shift within the first few weeks.
You can't. There's no schedule to keep up with, and you keep lifetime access. Come back whenever you need: any module, any lesson, any time, at your own pace.
Life happens, and the course will be here when you're ready.
You're covered by a 30-day, 100% money-back guarantee. Work through the method, and if it's not right for you, just email us within 30 days for a full refund.

Yes. That's one of the core problems this course solves. Module 1 teaches your right hand to carry melody and fill out the harmony at once. Module 2 shows you how to fill the gap between bass and melody with the MBC Stack. Module 3 gives you a complete left-hand toolkit.
By the end, your playing will sound full, rich, and complete. Not thin or empty.
You're not alone. This comes up constantly. Module 3 has a full left-hand toolkit: walking roots, root-plus-one patterns, gap fills, color patterns, and the rhythmic roll-up.
You'll go from "I just play root notes" to having real options under your fingers.
One of the biggest shifts in the course. First you'll learn where to add rhythm, spotting the natural gaps in a melody, then build a full toolkit of right-hand and left-hand options that create groove instead of stiffness.
By the end, your playing won't just sound correct; it'll feel like real, flowing music.
This is one of the most common things players tell me: you know the chord, but not which shape of it to actually play, so you freeze or default to root position every time.
The Solo Piano Playbook takes that decision off your shoulders: Module 2 gives you a clear default for building chords under a melody, and Module 4 shows you when (and why) to reach for a richer voicing or a passing chord.
You go from drowning in options to having a small, reliable set of go-to moves.
No. They're complementary. The Roadmap is the foundation: it gets you playing creatively from chords, often alongside backing tracks. Lead Sheet Masterclass is the solo piano specialty: taking any lead sheet and arranging it into a complete piece for two hands alone.
If you've done the Roadmap, this is the natural next step. If you haven't, it still works as a standalone course.
I open enrollment for a short window, then close it so I can focus on supporting the students working through the course.
When the doors are open, you're welcome to join. When they close, enrollment closes until the next window.
Still have a question?
Email hello@thekeyscoach.com and we'll help.
You've felt the gap every time someone says "play us something" and your hands freeze. You've tried the tutorials, the extra chords, the bits and pieces, and you're still here, still looking for the thing that actually closes it.
This is that thing. I've been there myself. It's the course I wish I'd had.
So… one year from now.
You'll still be at the piano. The only question is what kind of player you'll be.
Still treating every new song like a puzzle? Still leaning on written-out arrangements?
Or the kind of player who opens a lead sheet, sits down, and arranges something beautiful of their own. Who trusts themselves. Who finally sounds the way they've always wanted to.
The doors are open now, but not for long. If that's who you want to become, I'd love to welcome you inside.
Cheers,
